What is Structural Integration?
Structural Integration (SI) is a holistic treatment form systematically designed to restore, rebalance and revitalize the body back to its natural alignment. The treatment is named after its creator Dr. Ida P. Rolf, who was a pioneer in fascial research and movement education.
How Does It Work?
SI restores the body to its natural alignment by lengthening and realigning the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, organs, bones, and nerves in the body, giving muscles their shape and the body its structure.
SI is a process, a journey that you venture on with your practitioner as the guide that enables you to find your way back to your natural alignment and hone the tools needed to maintain it. This process consists of ten 1.5-2 hour sessions that are designed to restore postural balance by aligning and integrating the body in gravity through soft tissue manipulation and movement education.
With each session, your practitioner applies pressure to the body, stimulating the entire nervous system and fascial matrix in a systemic approach that we refer to as "the recipe." The amount of pressure used is determined by the complexities of your tissue makeup, as well as client feedback. The practitioner will direct client movement, releasing and lengthening the fascia. When congealed or "sticky" fascia is released, the body can return to its ideal structural alignment, giving you better balance, more efficient movement, and improved overall vitality.
Your practitioner will approach the body respectively through layers.
Sessions 1 through 3 release "the sleeve", or the superficial wetsuit of the body.
Sessions 4 through 7 bring you to the core.
Sessions 8 through 10 are when the magic happens, when your body becomes integrated.
